C - Cold Chisel

Khe Sanh (ver 2)

Cold Chisel – Khe Sanh

I saw Mossy playing this live years ago and he had a capo on the 5th fret. I've
transcribed this myself and im certain the chords are accurate.

Capo 5th Fret
Chords respective to capo (so play a Bm but the note is Em)

  Bm G D A
I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh
       Bm G A F#
And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the blackmarket man
             Bm G
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
         D G
From the ocean to the Silver City
         Em C A
And it's only other vets could understand

          Bm G D
About the long forgotten dockside guarantees
A Bm G A
How there were no V-day heroes in 1973
F# Bm G
How we sailed into Sydney Harbour
       D G
Saw an old friend but I couldn't kiss her
        Em A D G D A
She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land

            Bm G D A
And she was like so many more from that time on
      Bm G A
Their lives were all so empty, till they found their chosen one
F# Bm G
And their legs were often open
          D G
But their minds were always closed
          Em C A
And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains

        Bm G D A
And the legal pads were yellow, hours long, pay-packet lean
        Bm G A F#
And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been
Bm G
Car parks make me jumpy
      D G
And I never stopped the dreams
       Em A D G D A
Or the growing need for speed and novocaine

     Bm G D
So I worked across the country from end to end
A Bm G A
Tried to find a place to settle down, where my mixed up life could mend
F# Bm G
Held a job on an oil-rig
       D G
Flying choppers when I could
        Em C A
But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend

         Bm G D A
And I've travelled round the world from year to year
    Bm G A
And each one found me aimless, one more year the worst for wear
    F# Bm G
And I've been back to South East Asia
        D G
And the answer sure ain't there
         Em A D G D A
But I'm driftin' north, to check things out again
